Believe it or not, Vermont actually has a Miss USA under its belt. Carlene King Johnson won the crown for the Green Mountain State in 1955. But it's been a while since they've made the semi finals...28 years to be exact!
They might have a good chance this year to change that with Nydelis Ortiz.
Nydelis is a Castleton State College senior double majoring in Spanish for Business and Spanish Language and Literature with a minor in business administration. She's 20 years old and hails from Essex Junction. She's a native of Puerto Rico who moved to Vermont 14 years ago.
She's another contestant this year that has never competed in pageant before.
