Kenya Summer Moore was born on January 24, 1971, in Detroit, MI. She was raised by her grandmother (and primary inspiration) Doris. She is of African-American and Native American ancestry. She is a graduate of Cass Technical High School; whose other notable alumni include Diana Ross, David Alan Grier, Lily Tomlin, and Miss USA 1990 Carole Gist (the first African American to win). After high school, she went to Wayne State University where she majored in Psychology. In 1993 she was crowned Miss USA and came in fourth place in the Miss Universe competition. Kenya has starred in the film "Waiting to Exhale" and has appeared on the TV shows "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air," "Living Single" and "The Steve Harvey Show." She has been on the covers of "Glamour," "Seventeen," "Ebony" and "Essence." Kenya has a foundation that awards scholarships to under-privileged girls from her alma mater.
