QUESTION:  What would have happened if Jamie Solinger, Miss Teen USA 1992, competed in the 1999 Miss USA Pageant instead of 1998?

Our experts believe that Jamie would have placed in the top 10 or even made it to the top 5.  Why?  Competing with another former Miss Teen USA is always a bad thing.  Even more so when the former Miss Teen you are competing with is Shawna Gambill, 1994 Miss Teen USA.  If Jamie would have waited another year, she would have competed with another Miss Teen USA winner, Kimberly Pressler.  However, Jamie would have beaten Kimberly at the Miss USA crown.  Remember, Kimberly failed to make the top 10 at Miss Universe that year.  That hasn't happened since 1976, when Barbara Peterson competed in Hong Kong.

Also, 1999 would have been a better year for Jamie because the contestants that year were not as strong.  Our experts think that Jamie would have won the crown that year and would have done better at Miss Universe.

Oh well, we still think that Jamie is one of the best Miss Teen USA winners.

QUESTION:  What could 1999 Miss Philippines-Universe, Miriam Quiambao, have done better to beat Mpule Kwelagobe for the Miss Universe crown that year?

Our experts think that Miriam should have concentrated her training on answering questions.  She already had the swimsuit and evening gown dialed in.  This is one area where the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. fails to focus on each year.  There were a lot of Miss Philippines who competed at Miss Universe that would have done a lot better if they were given proper coaching on question and answer.

95% of Filipinos speak English, which gives them a strong advantage over other Asian contenders in any pageant around the world.  However, what they fail to understand is, it's not enough that you speak and understand English, but being able to convey a message and construct answers that will impress the judges.

No disrespect to Mpule, who we think was a great Miss Universe, we think Miriam had that crown up until the final question.  The judges clearly favored her over Mpule throughout the evening.

But, it was not meant to be!  We will always think of Miriam as the one that could have won Philippines' 3rd Miss Universe crown.

QUESTION: Name 3 first runners up in the history of Miss USA that should have been the winner instead and why?

Our experts said this is easy...

1.  Candace Brown - Miss Alabama - 1992 Miss USA Pageant
Candace was stunning, intelligent and would have done
better at Miss Universe in Bangkok that year.

2.  Brenda Denton - Miss New Mexico - 1985 Miss USA Pageant
This girl has non-stop style, very elegant, tall and again,
would have done well at Miss Universe in Miami that year.

3.  Kelly Lea Anderson - Miss West Virginia - 1984 Miss USA Pageant
This girl had Miss USA written all over her.  She was great
with interview, very natural and again, would have been a
much better delegate to the Miss Universe that year in
Miami.

It's all about timing.  Halle Berry should have been the 1986 Miss USA but we can't blame the judges for picking Christy Fitchner instead.
