QUESTION: What would have happened if the 2001 Miss Universe Pageant was not held in Puerto Rico? Do you think Denise Quinones would still be Miss Universe?
Our experts think that there is a definite advantage for Denise having the pageant in her home country. However, in the 56 years of the Miss Universe Pageant, it only happened 6 times. The first four are from the USA where the pageants were held in the U.S. from 1952 to 1971. After that came Brooke Lee in 1997, where the pageant was held in Miami.
After reviewing the 2001 Miss Universe Pageant, our experts believe that Denise deserved to win the crown whether it was held in Puerto Rico or not.

QUESTION: What could have been the result of the 1993 Miss USA if Miss Pennsylvania, Kimmarie Johnson, did not screw up in the judges' questions? Do you think she would have made the final 3?
Our experts believe that she could have been Miss USA that year instead of Miss Michigan, Kenya Summer Moore. During the one on one interview with Dick Clark, Kimmarie's personality came out. She was bubbly, funny and very natural. Kenya came across a little too rehearsed. We knew that Kimmarie was nervous but not to the point where she would freeze like she did.
She was the top favorite going into the semi finals. But come to think of it, we're not sure how she would have handled the booing in Mexico City that year at Miss Universe.
Interestingly enough, both Kimmarie and Kenya tried their luck in acting. Both women ended up in Los Angeles to pursue their dreams.

Remember, the pageant was also held in Puerto Rico the following year and Miss Puerto Rico 2002 did not even place in the semi finals. She did win Miss Photogenic though.
Her 1st Runner-Up that year, Miss Greece, Evelina Papantoniou, would have been a great Miss Universe too. It's all about timing!
sister pageants.
Having the same sets of judges for both the preliminary and finals night enable them to confirm their original thoughts for the contestant that did well in the preliminary. The only drawback to this is that the final result becomes very predictable. Unless of course the favorites in the preliminary really screws up in the final nights, which happened many, many times before. And what is up with having the Miss Universe Organization getting involved with the judging? Is this fair? We think not!
