QUESTION:  What would have happened if Kurara Chibana became Miss Universe in 2006?  Do you think Riyo Mori would have still won the crown in 2007?  Lets' ask our experts.

They all think that Riyo would NOT have won the crown in 2007 if Kurara was the reigning queen.  Like we mentioned in January's issue, there has not been a back to back win for any country in Miss Universe history and our experts believe that Japan would not have done so.  More than likely, Brazil or Korea might have won the 2007 crown.

QUESTION: What could have happened if the judges didn't score Miss South Africa a disappointing and unbelievable score of 7.225 in the semi final swimsuit competition of the 1982 Miss Universe Pageant in Lima, Peru?  Would she have made the top 5 and possibly could have won the crown that year instead of Karen Baldwin of Canada?

Our experts have been asking this question for many years now and here's what they think.  Miss South Africa, Odette Scrooby, would have won the Miss Universe crown that year.  She had the highest score coming in to the semi finals and was the clear favorite among the judges.  To this day, we have not been able to understand what happened.  We speculated several things.  One, they had a computer glitch and published the wrong score.

QUESTION: Should Miss Universe allow contestants to compete more than once?

Our experts love this idea!!!  There have been quite a few 1st Runners Up that probably would have won the crown had they've been allowed to compete the following year.

One in particular is Miss Italy 1987, Roberta Capua.  If she would been allowed to compete again, our experts believe that she may have been able to capture the crown.

Roberta is one of those unique and stunning beauties that rarely graces the stage of the Miss Universe Pageant.  This lady is an outstanding example of poise, intelligence and flare for fashion.  She continued on to become a very popular model in Italy and to this day, maintained her rare and remarkable beauty.
Two, the judges were so mesmerized by Odette that they completely forgot to punch in their scores, with the exception of course of those who did not like Odette.  We just couldn't come up with a logical explanation.

This will remain one of the unsolved mysteries surrounding the Miss Universe Pageant.  It would be one thing if Odette scored horribly in both interview and evening gown competitions  But to score the highest in both interview and evening gown and then scores one of the lowest in swimsuit is another.  We played the tape over and over again and we couldn't find anything wrong that she did during the swimsuit competition.  As a matter of fact, she could not have looked more gorgeous in that pink swimsuit.  Well, Karen was a great Miss Universe but doesn't it make you wonder what if?
We were there in Los Angeles during the 2006 Miss Universe Pageant and we were confident that Kurara had that crown from the very beginning.  The closest  contender to Kurara that year

were Miss Switzerland, Lauriane Gillerion and Miss Paraguay, Lourdes Arevalos.  Zuleyka Rivera of Puerto Rico was the least favorite of the evening.

We stayed at the Radisson Hotel around the corner from the Shrine Auditorium and met the parents of Miss Norway, Martine Jonassen, who were also staying at the hotel.  After the pageant, Martine joined her parents and we had the pleasure of talking to her at the pool.  She confirmed that everyone hated Zuleyka and Kurara was the favorite among the other contestants.

Riyo was a great Miss Universe but we think that Kurara would have been an awesome Miss Universe!
